Accept the GIFT

A couple weeks ago I wrote about giving the person across the net from you a second chance. Or, maybe, at least until the second set and see if she becomes friendlier. Who knows, she might be having a bad day. She might have a lot on her mind. You know, things like kids, homework, dinner, husband, elderly parents. We don’t just bring a racket with us when we step onto the tennis court. There’s a lot of baggage that comes along with us onto that court every morning.

I also mentioned how being able to go out and play tennis on weekday mornings is a GIFT. So ladies, accept this GIFT.

Another gift we have is being a member of a team. It’s doesn’t necessarily have to be a tennis team. It can be volleyball, basketball, soccer, squash…anything. When you are a member of a team, you have an entire community behind you. Accept that community.

These ladies, who are on your specific team, in that entire community, are always going to be there for you. Even if it’s someone you don’t know very well, or someone you don’t necessarily get along with, they are still going to be there for you.

You might be the one having a bad day when you walk out onto that tennis court. If someone comes up to you and offers to listen, accept it. Go to anyone on the team, in that community and let them know you want someone to talk to. Take advantage of being a member of a team.

Teams band together in good times and bad.

Accept the gift, ladies. Your teammates will always be there for you. Let them.

Let’s take it to the net, ladies.
